7 Reasons Why Dreams Die

As I review my life, I see some accomplishments and some failures.  Many mistakes and many lessons learned.  Some goals I achieved after and some I am still working on.  And if you are anything like me, you have some goals that you been saying you are going to accomplish and it has been years and it's still not done.  Some dreams are still alive and some are somewhat dormant.  Some... I'm not so sure I still want them or not.  Some I want, but don't know how I can accomplish them.

Below, are 7 reasons why people give up on their dreams.  See if you can relate to any of these.

1. Life knocked you around a few times and knocked the wind out of you and you are trying to get stable and figure out what happened.  As you are coming up for air, you don't even want to think about tackling something challenging.

2. Someone talked you out of it.  They said some negative things and caused you to doubt it all.  What they said rings in your mind more than the dream.

3. You stopped imagining it.  You stopped seeing yourself doing it, embracing it.  When you stop envisioning your dream, your dreams die.

4. Fear.  People are afraid of failure or maybe even afraid of success. They are afraid to try.  They are afraid of being embarrassed, laughed at, or talked about.

5. You are tired... tired of trying and getting minimal results.  Tired of people letting you down.  Tired of coming up short over and over.

6. You have weighed the cost of sacrifice vs. the reward and to you, the sacrifice doesn't seem worth it anymore.

7. Poor self-esteem.  When you don't see the worth in yourself, then it hard to be and stay motivated.  Poor self-esteem reduces expectation.  When you have low self-esteem, you don't think nor expect good things to happen to you. You will find yourself settling for below average things in life.  When a person has a dream or  vision, they see themselves being and doing greater.

Do you find yourself in any of these reasons listed above?

In my next blog, I will discuss things we can do to spark the dream and make it come alive again.

Stay tuned.

Growing Your Prophetic Gifting - Testimonial

I've been to the place of feeling like God couldn't and wouldn't want to use me because I wasn't "perfect."  I felt as I offended God in more ways than one and condemnation had set in.  I really didn't know or understand the power of forgiveness and justification so I would go through a period of feeling guilty.  Ever been there?

Of course while going through that period, walking in the prophetic never even crossed my mind.  Then once I got on a good run of pleasing God in my walk, I'd feel a little more spiritual and supposedly my hearing God ability was working again.

The truth of the matter is, my hearing God ability never really stopped working.  I learned that conviction was actually one of the ways God was speaking to me.

I thought I was the only one who went through cycles like this, but then I heard Sharon's testimonial of what prophetic training did for her.

Without knowing nor needing to know Sharon's situation, she felt like her Prophetic Gift had stopped.  As she put it, she felt like God "shut her down."  Then something happened.  She writes:

"I've been to a lot of prophetic conferences, paying for air ...  I got more out of this class than I have gotten from any conference.  On top of that I got a one-one one consultation to target my weak areas YOU DON"T GET THAT AT A CONFERENCE..."

“The coaching was so helpful! It allowed me to address and eliminate the kinks that kept me stuck in my prophetic flow. It helped me to fine tune my flow to be even more confident with accuracy.  I have taken many prophetic training classes and never have I experienced such thorough teachings and sharpening activations.  In addition to that, the opportunities to personally connect with my instructor made a world of difference.  In other trainings I attended, I was lucky if I got close enough to them to shake their hand, let alone address any issues I had.”    Sharon W.

Long story short, if you need help stirring and growing your prophetic gifting, consider doing what Sharon did.  She participated in our Prophetic Home Study Course.

Keys to Effective Praying - Part 1

In our online Prayer Bible Study, we have been studying the subject of prayer.

Here is one of the primary keys I believe is important for us to understand if we are going to be effective in praying to get results:

Understand Your Righteous Position

According to scripture, before we came to Christ, we were foreigners, strangers, in sin and apart from God.

Eph 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

but now...

13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

Let's explain it a little more.  According to scripture,

For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.  Rom 5:10

For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.  Rom 5:17

Did you see that?  We have received the Gift of RIGHTEOUSNESS!

The Amplified bible states the free gift of righteousness.

Well let's pause and define what righteousness or righteous is.  Righteousness is the condition acceptable to God.

One other quick passage:

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.  2 Cor 5:21

Combining the scriptures, we can conclude that before we accepted Christ redemptive work on the cross, His death burial, resurrection and ascension, you and I were enemies to God.  After believing on Christ, we now are acceptable to God and are no longer enemies and foreigners to Him.  Christ became sin for you and I so that we can be approved and accepted by God!  He, Christ, became sin for us and paid the price for the penalty of sin instead of you and me paying the penalty for our own sin, in turn gave us a FREE GIFT of being accepted and approved by God.

WOW!  That's amazing!  We sure do not deserve that!

But that sets us up to be a link to God's activity to what goes on in the earth.

The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.

The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.  Ps 34:15,17

So real quick...

To be more effective to getting answers in prayer, i think it's best for us to understand that we are the righteous people that God is inclined to listen out for.

He is looking to hear from you!

The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous (YOU), and his ears are open unto their (YOUR) cry!

Let's say it again...

The eyes of the LORD are upon the YOU, and his ears are open unto YOUR cry!

Take a few minutes to thank God for what He did to make you righteous.

Think for a minute about your righteous position.

The next time you have some secret time to pray, acknowledge your righteous position.

You Were Born to Be Amazing Part 3

As you think about your talent and your gifts, I'd like you to think about maximizing your ability.  Think about connecting with others to stretch your gift.  Who can you connect with?  Who can challenge you to become greater than you are right now?  Who motivates you and inspires you?

You were not born to be mediocre and average.  As heard Eric Thomas the Hip Hop Preacher say, be phenomenal of be forgotten.

You Were Born to Be Amazing!

I am convinced that when we become born again, that we became born again to be AMAZING!

When we settle for being mediocre, it leads to us operating and living out of our comfort zone.   Comfort zone living really has been leading us to our gifts and talents being stifled, and dwarfed.  Our Awesome and Mighty God has allowed you entry into this world so that He can shine in and through YOU!  This world needs to see the AMAZING God working in and through YOU!

The Power of Forgiveness!

We talk about it, but we don't do much of it! FORGIVE!
Oppression from the enemy can occur in many different ways. According to scripture, not forgiving presents definite consequences in our spiritual life. In order for us to walk in complete victory, it's to our advantage that we understand how the enemy works.

We are not to be ignorant of Satan's devices, lest he gets the upper hand and advantage over us. Your adversary knows what affects your spiritual growth. Therefore he causes his agents to try place bondage in your life any way he can.
I remember casting out demons and one spirit came out identifying itself as "Hurt." I understood it's function as the person I was ministering deliverance to had experienced quite a bit of abuse in the past. Part of this spirit's job was to keep fresh the experience of hurt in that person's mind and emotions. To cause them to relive as much as possible. When they do, bitterness, anger, hate, revenge, and so many other things start to fester and grow, eventually resulting in bondage to the person who will not forgive.
When that happens, the oppressor is successful in keeping us in oppression.

Needless to say, the person I was ministering deliverance to had to address this area so that they could get completely free.
Jesus made it clear that forgiveness is required when we pray, if we want good prayer results.
Unforgiveness hinders our prayer life.

And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. Mark 11:25

Understand this:
To forgive is NOT A SIGN OF WEAKNESS! Remember, while Jesus was on the cross, what did He say? Father forgive them, for they know not what they do.

Decide today that you are going to forgive!
I know it hurts, and I know it's tough, but it is required for us to grow and walk in VICTORY!

Forgive and be FREE!

Quinn

Overcome the Fear of Prophetic Ministry

I think back at the time I grew up in a pentecostal church.  I really didn't understand the gifts of the Spirit and was enthused by the fact that God can talk to us.  There would be certain revivalists or evangelists who would come in and preach and prophesy to others and you would hear them say, "God spoke to me..." or "God told me to tell you..."

Fascinating!
God would talk through another person to give them instructions and insight.  Wow!  A young boy couldn't help but to be impressed!

It wasn't until many years later that someone prophesied to me.  I recall that I was wearing a collarless shirt buttoned to the top and we were waiting for the previous church service to end so that we can set up the musical equipment for our protestant service at Eglin Air Force Base.  We shared the chapel there amongst different worship services and our service was up next.  While waiting, one of the choir members passed by and pointed at me and prophesied to me about me being in ministry.  I wonder to this day if she could tell what was going on in my mind.  I never had a desire to preach.  I just enjoyed playing my saxophone. Oh, and just for the record... for those who say that all prophecy must confirm with you, well... this did NOT confirm.  If only she knew the sinful life I was enjoying.

Fast forward about a year later. God started convicting me about my life in sin and I surrendered at the altar on a Sunday morning. Long story short, now I'm in ministry and teaching others how to minister to others while overcoming their fear of prophesying.

Here are 4 quick tips to overcoming the fear of prophesying:

1.  Engage.  Plug into a non-threatening learning environment that will teach you about prophetic ministry.

2.  Practice.  This learning environment should be able to provide ample opportunity to practice hearing God's voice and
     ministering to others.

3.  Feedback.  Most Prophetic Training programs allow you to receive honest feedback to ensure that you are on the
right track of hearing God's voice.

4.  Repeat.  Repeat steps 1 through 3 over and over again.

Eyes Fixed on God

In the time of distress and confusion, Jehoshaphat ended his prayer,"O our God … for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.   2 Chron 20:12

This scripture passage stuck with me for a while because I had some issues I wanted the Lord to direct me in.  But having my eyes on God seems to be a play on words if I can't see Him with my natural eye.  Ok Lord, what did Jehoshaphat mean by that?  And what did David mean when he said "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.  My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth."  Ps. 121:1-2.

Does it mean that we walk around all day looking up into the sky?  Can't be.  Then I saw the meaning in another verse.  Check it out:Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.  Ps 123:2

There it was.  Our eyes wait upon the Lord!  In other words, we look or expect by faith the Lord to come to our rescue.  Everyday, I'm looking (expecting) God to show up!  Do realize that God moves when He wants so the word WAIT means exactly what it says.  We are waiting on the Lord but still remaining in faith not doubting.   I admit if we look at some of our present circumstances we can become very discouraged.

The question is are you REALLY expecting God to help you?  Don't concentrate on the discouraging situations.  That's what people with no hope do.  But realize that things are going to get better because you are a person of faith and Your Eyes Are Fixed On God!  Where you are and what you are experiencing is not the end.  God's got something better!

The only thing that you should be interested in is what God has to say about the matter.  If God didn't start pulling His hair out over it yet, no need for you to.

Make sure that Your Eyes Are Fixed On God!

Yes You Can!

Here is an article I wrote about 14 years ago entitle Yes You Can!

Little Quinn and I often visit our "secret" basketball court in a nearby neighborhood.  It is outdoors and not too many kids know about it and so it's often empty.  We brought our little 10 month old girl and of course, my wife.  (She had to promise not to look while driving and surprisingly she didn't peak).

Shirleen and our baby girl first started out on the swings then to the rocking animals where they watched us shoot around.  Because little Quinn is only 3 ½ feet tall, shooting the ball towards a 10 ft goal is a slight problem so he shoots it "grandma style," that is between his legs.

Well, I talked him into shooting like a big boy and he responded that he couldn't reach the rim.  "Try it.  You could do it!"  I encouraged.  "Say I can do it!"

He tried and tried and tried and tried, each time I kept telling him to say, "I can do it!"  He would try again and miss, then say "I can do it!"  When he hit the bottom of the rim, I'd say,   "Whoa buddy!  You almost made it!"  He tried and tried and tried and tried some more and hit the rim a few more times and said, "Dad, I don't like shooting like this.  I'm going to shoot the other way."  And he did and still missed.

"Come on man, you can do it the other way.  Bend you knees and push from your toes!"  He tried and tried and tried and hit the rim a few times and each time I told him again, "Whoa! You almost made it.  Come on, say I can do it!"  I got Shirleen to help cheer him on, "You can do it Quinn  E.  Come on!" she yelled.  You can probably guess that this went on for quite some time.

To make the story short, he FINALLY made ONE!  That's it only ONE!  You can rest assure that we celebrated!  His hands were raised and he strutted like he won the championship game.  Of course I said, " I told you you could do it!!!!!"

We all need a little coaching and encouragement. Persistence and belief are two great keys to success.  Encourage yourself if no one else will and tell yourself, "I can do it!"  Whatever you are facing and dealing with, you can make it!

How many times have you failed?  If you are like little Quinn and me, there's so many that you can not number.  Failures can have an effect on your way of thinking and producing - IF YOU ALLOW THEM TO.

Say it like the apostle Paul, "I can do all things through Christ …"

Or like Little Quinn!

You can accomplish it!
You can do it!

Yes You Can!!!!!
